Classic Collection releases Morocco and Egypt brochure with ‘mixed emotions’

Classic Collection has unveiled its Morocco and Egypt brochure with “mixed emotions” following the recent earthquake in Marrakesh and the Atlas Mountains.

Recognising the devastation caused by the earthquake, director of product and commercial Alex Gavalda said the best way for the operator to show support for the destination is to continue to market the countries, and encouraged travellers to continue visiting.

The 110-page brochure features 22 properties which are new to the operator and the introduction of a new Nile cruise.

In Morocco, Classic Collection has introduced 11 new properties, including Fairmont Tazi Palace in Tangier, Kasbah Agaf and Hilton Taghazout Bay Beach Resort & Spa.

A seven-night stay at the latter on a B&B basis costs from £1,148, while a five-night stay at the Fairmont Tazi Palace begins at £1,176.

In Egypt, the operator is offering three, four and seven-night Nile cruise options from Luxor to Aswan, while it has added 11 hotels across Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Marsa Alam.

A seven-night Jaz Regent Nile cruise on a full-board basis costs from £2,971 and seven nights at the all-inclusive Movenpick Resort El Quseir in Marsa Alam starts at £1,649.

All prices include UK airport lounge passes, return flights, up to 23kgs hold luggage and private transfers.

“Given recent tragic events in Morocco, it’s with mixed emotions that we’re launching our new brochure,” said Gavalda, adding: “And yet the best way that we can show our support is by continuing to market the destination.

“As the country starts to recover, income from tourism will be extremely useful, and in this respect it’s fortuitous that Agadir, Essaouira, Tangier and Fez lie at some distance from the main affected areas and that the infrastructure of Marrakech has fared better than some initial reports suggested.

“In the High Atlas region we are monitoring the situation very closely in conjunction with our ground handlers and hotel partners.”

He continued: “North Africa is recognisable as a great value for money, non-Euro destination, offering distinctive culture, quality service and excellent hotel facilities at appealing price points.

“Sales for this summer have been hugely encouraging. To meet demand, we’ve introduced a host of new properties across the region, and our commercial advantage of using all airlines allowed us to take advantage of the airlift opportunities that have arisen from new flight routes from Manchester to Luxor and Gatwick to Marsa Alam.”
