Explore has partnered with charity Rewilding Britain as part of the adventure operator’s climate action plan.
The company announced its climate action plan in April, saying it would invest £1 million over three years to “restore, protect and offset”.
The “restore” element will be developed with Rewilding Britain – a small, independent charity, committed to “championing the benefits of rewilding for people, nature and in the fight against the climate emergency”.
From Friday (October 29), all bookings made with Explore will include a donation to Rewilding Britain that will help support projects in England, Scotland and Wales, with the goal of restoring 30% of Britain to its natural state by 2030.
Michael Edwards, Explore’s managing director, said: “The UK is considered one of the most nature-depleted countries, with over half of our species in decline [and] one in seven are heading towards extinction.
“It felt right to begin our journey to protect and restore nature close to home and we are proud to be working in partnership with Rewilding Britain.”
Rebecca Wrigley, Rewilding Britain chief executive, said: “In places across Britain and the world, rewilding approaches are reviving nature and local communities, in exhilarating ways, and sometimes at astonishing speed.
“We’re thrilled that Explore has chosen to support our work, doing its bit to address the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis, and sharing a vision of hope for a different future for people and nature.”
The “protect” element of Explore’s climate plan is being developed with Cool Earth, working to protect the rainforest, alongside indigenous communities in South America.
The “offset” element will see remaining carbon emissions offset with B-Corp partners ClimateCare.
