Gold Medal reports Thailand peaks bookings up by 30%

Long-haul operator Gold Medal has reported Thailand sales are up by 30% year on year for this current peaks booking period.

The destination has accounted for 12% of all bookings for the trade-only specialist during January – with momentum growing throughout the month.

The first week of January saw sales up 23% compared to the previous year; week two was up 24%, and week three grew by 36%.

Phuket is the most popular Thai resort, followed by Bangkok, Khao Lak and Krabi.

The dnata Travel Group UK brand said that since launching its online booking functionality last year, agents have been exploring the website and making more bookings online, “amplifying this substantial growth in Thailand bookings”.

Although single-centre and twin-centre bookings have seen growth compared to the same period last year, multi-centre trips are the most popular, growing more than 40% year on year as customers seek to experience more of the country.

Deborah Wadhams, head of long-haul product, said: “Thailand is a seemingly limitless destination, offering bustling cities, tropical jungles and some of the best beaches in the world. It is no wonder that we are seeing a growth in bookings across the board – couples, solo travellers and families.

“Not only are customers venturing to different areas across Thailand, but we have also seen they are choosing to spend more on their holiday this peaks than in previous years.

“The desire to experience the far east has been continuously growing, but it would appear that Thailand is the place to be in 2024.”
