Greece relaxes face mask mandate

Passengers flying to Greece no longer need to wear a face covering during the journey as the country has relaxed its mask mandate.

Greece has today (June 1) removed the requirement for people to wear masks on planes, following the recommendation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), which said face masks should no longer be required in airports or on flights.

The requirement to wear face masks in restaurants, bars and cafes had already been removed, but masks remain mandatory in hospitals, care facilities and on public transport.

Greece’s Health Minister Thanos Plevris said: “Mandatory mask-wearing remains in hospitals, nursing homes and urban transport like buses, metro and tram.”

The UK foreign Office website has been updated to reflect the changes and states: “From June 1, it is only mandatory to wear a mask on public transport and in hospitals and care facilities for the elderly. In all other spaces there is no legal requirement to wear a mask.”

Travellers visiting Greece do not need to take any Covid tests, show proof of vaccination or show proof of recovery to enter, regardless of vaccination status.
