Hays Travel scoops Investors in People award

Hays Travel has won the 2022 Investors in People award for Learning and Development

The travel agency chain was up against businesses including PwC and the National Bank of Bahrain at the awards, which see hundreds of organisations from across the UK and abroad battle it out for a trophy.

The award recognises organsations that have developed a strategy for learning and development that has a positive impact on the business and its staff.

Dame Irene Hays, owner and executive chair of Hays Travel commended the winning team for its work since the business acquired Thomas Cook stores in 2019.

She said: “It is impossible to overestimate how successfully our learning and development team adapted to the acquisition of Thomas Cook, to Covid, and to the introduction of business processing services. The company would not be in the strong position it is today without them. They are remarkable.”

The award was accepted at the Investors in People Awards 2022 ceremony by Hays Travel’s head of learning and development Angela Riseam-Smith, who joined Hays Travel as an apprentice in 2001. She credits her success to the training she received from the Learning and Development team.

She was joined at the awards by senior learning and development manager Beverley Little, learning and development manager Elizabeth Whitcombe, and retail and training director Jane Schumm.

Investors in People chief executive Paul Devoy said: “I am proud of every organisation that entered this year, demonstrating the value in making work better and setting an example for other organisations to do the same.”
