Holiday Extras shares advice ahead of EU entry rule introduction

Holiday Extras has shared advice for holidaymakers ahead of the implementation of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS).

The system is being launched by the EU in November and means travellers from outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) must pay €7 to enter the Schengen Area.

Once purchased, the waiver will be valid for three years so travellers will not need to pay again until the three years have lapsed.

Part of strict new EU entry rules delayed [August 22]

Simon Hagger, deputy chief executive of Holiday Extras, said the ETIAS will not affect most travellers’ holiday plans and any confusion caused by the system us an “easy problem to solve”.

“Holidaymakers have only just got used to normal travel again so it’s easy to understand how these new systems, which are completely new for Brits travelling into the Schengen Zone, are confusing and hard to keep track of,” he said.

“All it will mean in practice though is Brits will need to register for the permit before they head overseas – a process expected to take around 10 minutes and involve answering a series of simple questions.

“It’s promising to hear that these new rules won’t stop or alter most holidaymakers’ holiday plans about travelling to Europe.

“Whilst they are expected to add some paperwork to getting away, that is the worst of it, so it shouldn’t be a hurdle to a week in the sun.”
