Karin Rochelle from homeworking agency Your Holiday Booking has a place on an Intrepid Travel trip to Morocco through competition held to mark International Women’s Day.
The operator asked agents to nominate inspirational women from the travel industry around the March 8 date as it released a range of new tours to mark the occasion.
Rochelle was nominated by fellow agents who praised her “fighting spirit” and her continued support of fellow homeworkers and clients as well as her fundraising efforts for various charities, all while recovering from cancer.
She will join one of Intrepid’s Women Expeditions in Morocco next year.
Rochelle said: “I was shocked…and really humbled by all the other colleagues and travel folk I know who nominated me.”
Joanna Reeve, head of business development for Intrepid Travel, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate inspirational women from our industry – the response was fantastic.
“Despite facing incredible personal and professional challenges, Karin has found the time to support and offer guidance to friends and colleagues.
“In the many nominations Karin received, she was described a ‘truly inspirational woman’ and a ‘star who deserves to be recognised’ and we absolutely agree.”
The runner-up was Geraldine Morelli, of Explorer Travel, who wins an Urban Adventures at Home virtual experience.
As well as running her travel agency, Morelli runs a wildlife conservation charity to help animals around the world.
One nomination for her read: “Her passion lights up a room and she inspired many children with free educational packs during lockdown to educate them and give them a love for the wild.”
