Online travel deals platform HolidayPirates Group is moving its global headquarters to Berlin as it continues to embrace a remote working policy.
The group made its first steps to implement a remote-first working policy before the pandemic began but the Covid-19 outbreak accelerated the process as it operates across ten international markets and employs people from more than 40 countries.
The German company, which expanded into the UK in 2012, moves into the new base on September 1.
Employees have also been provided with access to shared workspaces, enabling them to work from more than 700 locations across the world.
Through this ‘hub and spoke’ model, staff can collaborate both at an official headquarters, as well as in flexible spaces run by real estate firm WeWork convenient to their location.
The move highlights a growing shift away from the traditional office-based model.
It will enable the company to continue to provide employees with freedom to work remotely from any corner of the world, while offering flexible workspace to help tackle the challenges of remote working.
Chief executive David Armstrong said that “it made sense that we had a remote-first policy throughout the pandemic, but as we slowly and cautiously move out of the grip of Covid-19, we want to provide all our colleagues access to collaborative spaces”.
He added: “Our HQ and ‘hub’ will be in Berlin, but all our colleagues scattered across the world will have access to meet, work and collaborate in great and central locations.”
Niki Kolev, WeWork managing director northern and central eastern Europe, said: “As companies begin to embrace hybrid working and flexibility, the right workspace has never been so important.
“We are confident the HolidayPirates team will thrive in their new WeWork HQ – designed to foster collaboration, creativity and company culture – while also benefiting from our portfolio of inspiring workspaces across the globe through WeWork All Access.”
