Reuben’s Retreat pleas for support ahead of tenth anniversary

Reuben’s Retreat is asking supporters to say how they can help the charity in 2022 when it is set to mark its tenth anniversary.

Reuben Graham died aged 23 months in 2012 after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. His mum Nicola, who was working at Red Sea Holidays at the time, set up the charity Reuben’s Retreat in his name.

The charity supports families who have lost a child or are suffering from a life threatening or life-limiting condition with counselling, support groups, well-being activities, holistic therapies and respite breaks.

The charity is now asking what supporters ‘can bring to Reuben’s Retreat’ as it prepares to celebrate ten years and is asking them to email their thoughts to the charity.

This could be fundraising efforts, donating their time to help or sharing the charity’s work on social media.

Nicola said: “Everybody has something to bring to Reuben’s Retreat, this project will be built on love, compassion and generosity.”

This year saw the return of the charity’s REUBall, its afternoon tea, grotto and scores of other fundraising events. More than 300 individuals contacted the charity for support this year for the first time.

In 2022, the first fundraiser will be a New Year’s Day swim by open water specialists Uswim Openwater, which is supporting Reuben’s Retreat in 2022. The swim will be in water temperatures as low as 7C at Dock 9, MediaCityUK, Salford Quays.
