Travel firms celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day last Friday with surprise treats for customers and agents.
South Wales miniple The Travel House delivered muffins and cookies to staff and surprised two customers at random with news they would each have £500 paid off their remaining holiday balances.

One recipient was a new customer at the Llanelli branch who booked a sailing with MSC Cruises in May 2024. The other was a regular at the Brynhyfryd branch who booked a Tui holiday to Benidorm in August.

Both were “over the moon” to hear from branch managers, said head of retail Leanne Williams, who delivered the goodies to staff.

She added: “We felt as a business it was good to give something back.

I felt so privileged being able to do this and make a difference to someone with the current difficult financial climate. Our staff were just as shocked as it was a complete surprise. It’s made them feel proud that they work for The Travel House.”

The Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers (Atas) treated more than 10 travel agents and tour operator staff to a bottle of bubbly after seeking nominations on its Facebook group.

Claire Brighton, Atas account director, said one agent tagged colleagues who had supported her through a tough time, while others flagged up co-workers who had worked hard during peaks.

Another tagged an agent who had taken on a promotion and an apprenticeship at the same time, and other agents praised tour operators for their support, added Brighton.

“There was a real mix and it was too difficult to decide on just one so we gave multiple treats,” she said.

Travel Republic randomly selected some of its customers who had booked holidays to Florida and New York and gave them tickets to the Kennedy Space Center, Discovery Cove and One Vanderbilt. It also gave away £500 to its “biggest fan”.

The dnata UK brand is marking its 20th anniversary and has already given away numerous prizes as part of its celebrations.

Virgin Atlantic partnered with the Virgin Red rewards club to gift 500,000 Virgin Points to 50 followers across the Twitter and Instagram accounts of both companies.
