Travel Counsellors reports strong staycation interest

Travel Counsellors has predicted staycations are here to stay, as it said sales for UK holidays so far this year are 50% higher than in 2019.

The independent travel company said staycation sales were just over £2m in 2019, but have already topped £3m so far this year.

Although this year’s sales are at around 50% of 2021 levels when travel abroad was limited, Travel Counsellors said 2022 sales demonstrate a “marked increase in those booking a UK break through a trusted travel advisor”.

UK managing director Kirsten Hughes said: “It is no surprise that last year was unprecedented when it came to domestic sales, but what is gratifying is that many of our customers are continuing to come to us for domestic travel, having experienced the benefits of booking through a trust travel advisor.

“Whilst oversea travel continues to be the majority of what we sell and sales are incredibly strong, there are those that want to stay closer to home or are booking additional UK getaways to make the most of their holiday time.

“We have some great deals for UK breaks this summer and there is still availability for those that have yet to make any holiday plans.”
