Travel Counsellors surpasses £50m in sales during record-breaking month

Travel Counsellors has reported its biggest-ever sales day, taking £5.53 million in bookings on Wednesday (January 18).

The record-breaking day followed a bumper ‘Blue Monday’ – the third Monday of January dubbed the most depressing day of the year – when the homeworking agency achieved £4.7m in sales.

So far the firm has taken £50m in bookings already this month.

Travel Counsellors also reported a 92% sales spike versus the same period in January 2022.

A recent customer survey revealed 89% of respondents were still looking to travel despite ongoing economic pressures caused by the cost-of-living crisis, the company said.

Jim Eastwood, global sales director at Travel Counsellors, said: “This is a record-breaking January so far, with Blue Monday spurring customers on to book their holidays for the year, in addition to our sizeable corporate travel sales.

“This month, we have already celebrated six of the top 10 sales days ever recorded, and we are only halfway through January.”

He said the recent survey demonstrated how customers were still placing “great value on travel experiences”, while wanting to book with someone they can trust.

“These record-breaking figures are testament to the incredible care and commitment of our travel counsellors and colleagues, who are working around the clock to get those bookings over the line and provide a truly personal service to their customers,” Eastwood added.

The company revealed Spain, USA and Greece were proving the most popular destinations and added “numerous” bookings worth more than £50,000 had been made.

Trips sold include a gorilla experience in Rwanda costing over £250,000 and a Nile cruise of nearly £90,000.

Travel Counsellors noted a surge of late bookings for trips departing in February and March, but confirmed July and August remain the firm’s biggest departure months this year.

The company achieved £800m in sales across a record-breaking 2022.
