Travel salaries up 13% so far this year, reports industry recruiter

The number of new candidates searching for jobs in the travel industry rose in September – and salaries so far this year are 13% up.

However, the numbers of vacancies and placements dipped last month, according to C&M Travel Recruitment.

September saw the number of new jobseekers increase by 3% from August. Compared to previous years, last month’s total was down by 12% from September 2022, up by 4% from 2021 and down by 18% from September 2019.

However, C&M’s activity index reported: “Less positively, there was a fall in placements during the month, with the number of candidates finding new travel roles dipping by 13% from August to its lowest level of the year. The figure was also down by 59% from September 2022.

“Similarly, the number of new travel jobs being made available dipped back to its lowest point in five months.

“With a 45% fall from August, September’s total was also down by 53% from the same month last year.”

Barbara Kolosinska, managing director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: “It’s always positive to see a rise in the number of people looking to work in the travel industry.

“Salaries are up by around 13% so far this year and it’s vitally important that we promote the perks of working in travel and continue to do all we can to encourage candidates to join our industry.

“Travel recruitment activity remains slower than we would traditionally expect at this time of year, but that also means there are fantastic opportunities for employers to access a wider talent pool by advertising their upcoming vacancies immediately.”

Owen Mckeon, marketing and operations manager, commented on the salary rises, saying: “Despite the small rise in September, there is still an overall lack of talent searching for new jobs at the moment, and this has resulted in many travel companies increasing their salaries in an effort attract the best candidates.

“We have seen salaries continually increase for around 18 months now, and we’re seeing no signs of this slowing down.”

All figures are drawn from the month’s new vacancies advertised with C&M Travel Recruitment.
