Tui vows to make eco-conscious holiday choices ‘easier’ for clients

Tui is poised to launch a new sustainability programme in January to make it “easier” for customers to make more sustainable choices.

Arantxa Garcia Lis, head of sustainability for Tui Cruises and the group’s tours and excursions arm Tui Musement, said: “We aim to enable customers to make sustainable holiday choices at every stage.”

The group launched its Green and Fair Hotels label for properties and Green and Fair Experiences label for Tui Musement excursions certified to GSTC-recognised standards in November 2022.

Tui Musement was itself certified against GSTC criteria in November 2020 and is now working to “extend sustainable practices through our supply chain through a sustainable management system”, said Garcia Lis.

She explained: “We have an extensive number of suppliers and partners [and] all go through the sustainability management system we created. It’s not a self-assessment, it’s a proper check-up. We tell suppliers where they need to make changes, and they can become partners of our Green and Fair portfolio.”

Garcia Lis added: “The system is focused on small businesses. It’s free because they can’t pay. We do workshops, provide support, coaching and best practice guidelines.”
