Trips to the US are top of the bucket list for almost a quarter of British holidaymakers quizzed by Holiday Extras in a recent survey.
The ancillaries provider polled 1,000 holidaymakers in a survey that was completed on Monday (November 8), as the US opened its borders to fully vaccinated UK travellers.
When asked which long-haul destination travellers would like to return to first, almost a quarter (23%) of Brits said the US. Other destinations were the Caribbean (14%), the Maldives (13%), Australia (11%) and New Zealand (7%).
New York topped the list of cities that holidaymakers have missed travelling to the most while restrictions were in place. It was cited by 14% of respondents, beating popular European destinations including Paris (13%), Barcelona (10%) and Rome (9%).
Holiday Extras’ booking data shows that the US is currently its second most-booked destination.
Seamus McCauley, head of communications at Holiday Extras, commented: “After two years, two lockdowns and a fair bit of bingeing US box-sets on the sofa, it’s probably no coincidence that a lot of us are looking forward to an American adventure now it’s reopened for business.
“The USA has everything you could need for a holiday – city breaks, national parks, adventure sports and more, and especially for the millions of Brits with friends and family out there, it’s a welcome relief to be able to get back out there.”
The US reopened to UK travellers on Monday after a 20-month ban, initially imposed by President Trump in March 2020 as the pandemic took hold.
