Alfa Travel expands UK hotel portfolio with two acquisitions

Domestic coach tour operator Alfa Travel has boosted its UK hotel portfolio with the acquisition of two properties.

The Royal Hotel, Weymouth and the Waverley Castle Hotel, Melrose in Scotland join 24 UK-based hotels run by the Alfa Leisureplex Group (ALG).

The two acquisitions follow the purchase of the Norfolk Royale Hotel in Bournemouth in February 2023, as the group continues to expand its range of destinations across the UK.

Both hotels provide more availability for solo travellers with a total of 38 single rooms available with no single room supplement between the two properties.

Employee-owned ALG, the parent company of Alfa Travel and Leisureplex Hotels, bought Scottish coach operator David Urquhart Travel in 2020 and recently rebranded it as Alfa Travel Scotland.

ALG managing director Emma Russell said: “Along with a multimillion-pound refurbishment programme across our existing hotel estate and the expansion of our Mercedes touring fleet, we are committed to providing our customers with outstanding quality value for money coach holidays.

“Our customers have been requesting that we offer a Leisureplex hotel in Weymouth for a number of years, so it is great that we can finally fulfil this wish with the purchase of one of the finest hotels in Weymouth.”

The group said in December that it was investing in “ambitious plans” and developing its commitment to trade sales, including working with agents in Scotland for the first time.
