Balearic Islands extends free Covid insurance offer

The offer of free Covid-19 insurance for visitors to the Balearic Islands has been extended to the end of the year.

The Tourism Agency of the Balearic Islands confirmed the extension of the cover, provided by RACE insurance, to all international visitors (non-residents) for stays at regulated accommodation up to December 31, 2021.

It said the extension of the policy is part of a bid to restore confidence among travellers and stimulate demand, and is especially targeting families during the October half term.

Free cover was first offered in May, when the Balearics launched an advice website for travellers to give information on Covid restrictions.

The type of cover and circumstances covered in the case of a Covid-19 infection include: medical, surgical and hospitalisation expenses with a maximum limit of €15,000, medical expenses for transportation and repatriation, as well as the costs of extending a stay in regulated accommodation for the policyholder and their companions.

The policy covers costs resulting from the policyholder’s stay being prolonged due to self-isolation or quarantine because of Covid-19.

A helpline service in English for tourists is also available.
