Abta has announced Calvià in Majorca will host The Travel Convention in 2025.
The convention will take place from October 6 to October 8 at the recently renovated Calvia Beach Resort.
The destination is the only one to have hosted Abta’s Travel Convention in each decade since the 1970s.
Speaking at the end of the 2024 convention in Costa Navarino, the UK director of the Spanish Tourist Office Manuel Butler said: “We are delighted to host the most important travel convention worldwide back in Spain.”
Calvià is located in southwestern Majorca between the Tramuntana Mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea and has seen “significant investment” over the last decade, including the ongoing redevelopment of the seafront at Magaluf.
Delegates will stay in the Meliá Calvià Beach hotel and the neighbouring Meliá South Beach hotel, two ultra-modern properties offering à la carte seafront dining, a range of outdoor pools, spa, gym, and conference facilities. The resort is a 30 minute transfer from Palma aiport.
Registration is due to open in spring next year.
Convention host partner is the Calvià Tourist Board, supported by Turespaña.
Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “I am delighted that we will be returning to Majorca for the 2025 Travel Convention. With its rich and evolving tourism offering and high popularity among UK holidaymakers, Majorca is an incredibly important destination for the UK travel trade. For this reason, it’s the only destination to have hosted Abta’s Travel Convention in every decade since the 1970s.”
It will be the first time Calvià has hosted the event.
Juan Antonio Amengual, major of Calvià, said it was a “great honour” for Calvià to host a convention that will highlight the area’s repositioning and transformation in recent years.
He said: “We look forward to welcoming Abta delegates with open arms and showcasing why Calvià is a leading destination in the Mediterranean.”
The Majorca Tourism Councillor, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, added that “it represents a boost to the policies promoted by the Majorca Council in favour of responsible tourism”.
He said: “Responsible tourism is more than just a goal; it is the horizon we set to ensure the coexistence of tourists and residents. We must work to raise awareness of the need for civic behaviour for the sake of coexistence and mutual respect, and events like the one Abta will hold in Majorca next year will greatly help us achieve this goal.”
