Carnival Cruise Line is extending the use of a digital health app to help make Covid health screening simpler and quicker for passengers boarding ships in the US.
The VeriFLY app was tested in a pilot scheme in January ahead of a sailing by new ship Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral in Florida.
More than 85% of the 2,000 passengers who opened an email invitation followed through by downloading the app.
The use of VeriFLY, which enables vaccinated passengers to submit pre-embarkation information, has now been extended across the fleet.
Passengers who use the app can expect the time it takes to complete the health assessment process during embarkation to be cut in half, according to the line.
They will be asked to submit required documentation, including vaccination status and Covid-19 test results. A VeriFLY pass will be issued in the app when the process is successfully completed to present at embarkation.
Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said: “VeriFLY helps our guests easily and securely complete pre-embarkation tasks right from their smartphone.
“Guests can save time at the port and get on board faster by completing the process via VeriFLY.”
Passengers who choose not to use the app are still able to complete pre-cruise tasks on the line’s website and present required Covid-19 documents during their embarkation.
