The Conscious Travel Foundation has generated nearly £5,000 for Morocco within 24 hours as the membership organisation prepares to hold an industry fundraising event.
Talks and networking will take place in the Montcalm Hotel in London’s Marble Arch today (Wednesday) as part of ‘How can we be helpful? The travel industry for Morocco’.
The afternoon session will be for people who were supposed to attend the Pure luxury conference in Marrakech, with the evening session open to anyone in the travel sector.
Conscious Travel Foundation co-founder Olivia Cryer called for the industry to show “radical collaboration in the face of adversity”, adding: “We want to raise as much as possible and we’re going to do the best we can.”
Tickets cost £25 and within 24 hours of them going on sale, a total of 137 had been purchased. A further £1,300 had been raised through donations by people unable to attend.
The money will go to the Intrepid Foundation, which will direct funds to Education for All and the High Atlas Foundation.
During the afternoon session, Intrepid’s managing director EMEA, Zina Bencheikh, will be dialling in from the High Atlas Mountains.
The afternoon session will run from 3pm until 6pm, with the evening session taking place from 6pm until 8pm.
The initiative came as funds raised by Intrepid Travel’s emergency Morocco earthquake appeal topped $303,000.
