EasyHotel plans to spend €1.5 million in reducing carbon footprints at nine EU properties.
The budget hotel group aims for an 18% CO2 reduction by end of the year with the strategy extending to France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain, with plans for more locations.
The EU hotels are in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Maastricht, Paris, Rotterdam and The Hague.
Measures include energy-efficient upgrades like heat pumps and LED lights.
The move follows a £4.5 million investment announced last year to reduce its carbon footprint across 12 UK hotels by 2025.
Chief executive Karim Malak said:“Our size-efficient rooms use less materials in the construction and heating, and our brilliant basics such as four star mattresses, super-fast wi-fi and blackout curtains are designed to give guests a great night’s sleep without any unnecessary extras.
“In our mission to become the first choice for low-carbon affordable hotels in Europe, it is important to introduce further measures to improve upon our carbon emissions, both for us and our guests.
“Last year’s investment into our UK portfolio was a pivotal moment to address our emissions and we’re proud to be extending this initiative with this additional investment into more of our European portfolio.
“This strategic investment ensures that regardless of location, guests can be confident that their stay aligns with their affordable and sustainable values across our owned and leased network.”
