India bookings surge predicted as e-visas return

A surge in tour bookings to India is being predicted following the return of the country’s e-tourist visa UK travellers.

The forecast came from Newmarket Holidays as it discounted India trips booked by agents before Christmas Eve.

India was a top-selling destination for the escorted tour specialist before the pandemic.

But the application process for e-tourist visas for British citizens was paused in March 2020, and then replaced by in-person appointments that led to long delays in processing applications.

Newmarket Holidays US, Canada and Asia destination manager Richard Harrington said: “It’s great news that the e-tourist visa has returned. It’s a far simpler, faster and much cheaper option for customers travelling to this great country.

“India is a much-loved destination that, from a travel viewpoint, has emerged from pandemic restrictions more slowly than other locations.

“Because of the visa delays, there is going to be lots of pent-up demand from people who want to visit, so it’s a great opportunity for travel agents to focus on over the next few months.”

The operator offers nine escorted tours and has 60 departure dates available for India in 2023 and 2024.
