A Spain flood appeal started by specialist operator Intrepid’s Travel Foundation has raised more than $19,000 since being instigated on Friday.
Funds raised are going to provide emergency relief for communities in Valencia region devastated by torrential rain and flash flooding.
At least 217 people are known to have been killed with many others missing in the floods which struck last Tuesday after a period of intense rainfall.

Reports from the worst-hit towns show buildings and bridges swept away, submerged farmlands and streets engulfed in metres of muddy water.
Intrepid said: “People have lost loved ones, others have lost their homes and major infrastructure has been destroyed as many communities in Valencia face the aftermath of the worst floods in decades.”
Financial support will go directly to Intrepid’s local NGO partner Casa Caridad to provide critical relief such as clothes, food, sleeping bags and other supplies for local people in need.
“Meteorologists say parts of Valencia experienced a year’s rain in less than eight hours,” the appeal added.
“As a beloved travel destination and home to many of our Intrepid people, we’re called to do everything we can to help in the disaster recovery efforts.
Intrepid has pledged to double match all donations dollar-for-dollar up to A$50,000.
