Intrepid Travel partners with UK whale and dolphin charity

Intrepid Travel has partnered with Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) which works with business, governments and grassroots communities to tackle threats faced by whales and dolphins.

WDC has become the first UK-based charity partner of Intrepid’s non-profit arm, the Intrepid Foundation.

The foundation has made an initial donation of £5,000 and will match customer contributions.

Furthermore, WDC’s patron and BBC presenter Julia Bradbury will make a guest appearance on the February 25, 2025, departure of Journey to the Antarctic Circle on board the Ocean Endeavour.

She will hold a talk for passengers and share her passion for nature, the outdoors and its links to wellbeing.

Hazel McGuire, UK and Ireland general manager at Intrepid, said: “The Intrepid Foundation has a long history of supporting wildlife conservation, and our values closely align with those of WDC.

“We know that whales and dolphins are facing an unprecedented number of threats – from hunting to marine pollution – and we’re proud to be supporting this worthy cause.”

Bradbury added: “Antarctica is one of the most extraordinary places on our shared planet and so I’m thrilled to be joining this trip of a lifetime.

“As a patron of Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and someone who is fascinated by these incredibly intelligent, sentient yet vulnerable creatures, I know it will be an emotional experience to see them cruising through the pristine waters of the Antarctic Circle.”

Chris Butler-Stroud, WDC chief executive, said: “We are delighted to partner with Intrepid Travel and the Intrepid Foundation on two groundbreaking pieces of work that will help WDC create a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free.

“Our patron Julia Bradbury is incredibly excited to join Intrepid’s Journey to the Antarctic Circle trip, it’s a wonderful opportunity for people to experience the Antarctic’s marine wildlife alongside a guest as welcoming as Julia.

“We are also looking forward to working with the Intrepid Foundation as its first UK partner and sharing the wonderful world of whales and dolphins with their community.”
