Jet2holidays mobilises Turkey earthquake emergency aid support

Jet2holidays is to directly support aid efforts in Turkey by donating £50,000 to buy emergency supplies.

The operator is also sending 100 transfer coaches into earthquake affected areas to deliver provisions, as well as to help evacuate people out of the disaster zone.

The relief initiative reflects a move by Tui to send a fleet of coaches into areas of southeastern Turkey left devastated by Monday’s earthquakes in the region and northern Syria, which has seen the death toll top 21,000.

Jet2holidays’ coaches are being loaded with food, water, hygiene products and portable heaters and will make their way from resorts tonight (Friday).

The company said the vehicles were being made available after direct liaison with its local agent in Turkey to understand how to immediately assist with aid efforts.

The operator has also donated £50,000 to go towards fuel costs, as well as to help purchase vital aid supplies such as food, water and hygiene products.

Chief executive Steve Heapy told Travel Weekly: “Our thoughts go out everybody in the region following the truly terrible events this week.

“We have been in constant dialogue with our partners on the ground in Turkey to find out exactly how we can help in the most direct and immediate way possible.

“They have been very clear that transport, food, water, heat and hygiene products are what is required more than anything, which is why we are making our coaches available right now, along with direct funding for much-needed supplies.

“Following the devastating events this week, people need help now, not tomorrow or next week, and we believe this is the best way for us to make a direct and immediate impact.”
