NCL set for 10-ship European summer deployment

Norwegian Cruise Line ship Norwegian Prima will be homeporting in Southampton for the first time this summer season.

The new generation vessel will begin ex-UK sailings from June 5 as part of a 10-ship deployment in Europe through until December.

The 3,099-passenger Norwegian Prima will also operate from Barcelona and Reykjavik, the Icelandic port it was named in last August. Southampton departures run until October.

Sister ship Norwegian Viva is also part of the European sailing schedule with departures from 15 ports, including Bilbao, Tromso, Marseille and Ravenna in Italy for the first time.

The line is offering 132 itineraries as part of the programme covering 150 ports of call throughout northern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Greek islands.

NCL, which has an 18-strong fleet of ships, is also shifting towards longer cruises, with 87% of European voyages having a duration of nine or more days, compared to 63% in 2019.

Ships will spend an average of 10.5 hours in port to allow for shore exploration and excursions.

Head of UK and Ireland business Gary Anslow said: “Europe is a destination that has captured the hearts and imaginations of travellers for generations.

“This season, we’re thrilled to be offering even more opportunities to explore this fascinating continent, with the added bonus of having Prima homeport from Southampton this summer.

“Following the ease of travel restrictions, we’ve seen the demand for our European voyages return in full swing. With guests from over 142 countries already booked, it’s clear that people are eager to get out and see the world.”
