New California river cruises by American Cruise Lines from next month are claimed to be the first of their kind since the 1940s.
American Jazz, one of the company’s ten new river vessels, will operate from San Francisco, including the Napa River, Sacramento River and San Joaquin River.
The first eight-day itinerary sets sail on February 24 after the ship completes a repositioning from the Mississippi River via the Panama Canal.
American Jazz will be the first US built riverboat to offer overnight cruises throughout San Francisco Bay and the California Delta in more than 80 years.
The cruises, including calls for vineyard visits and wine tasting, run in February and March and again in November and December.
Company president and chief executive Charles Robertson said:“Exploring San Francisco Bay and the California Delta by US riverboat is a momentous occasion for domestic river cruising and another first for American Cruise Lines.
“We are proud to provide this new opportunity for our guests to experience the joys of cruising close to home, as they discover yet another beautiful area of the country by riverboat.
“American continues to expand the possibilities for exceptional domestic small ship cruises by introducing brand new US flagged riverboats and small cruise ships each year.”
