October half term sees surge in overseas holidays

Independent travel agents are seeing a 15% rise in October school half term bookings as people seek to escape wet weather Britain.

Most schools in England have a week-long break from Monday (October 28) although some have a two week closure, while the mid-term period in Scotland was last week.

Advantage Travel Partnership chief executive Julia Lo Bue-Said said: “The appetite for travel remains incredibly strong this year and the upcoming October half term is set to be another busy period.

“Many people are heading off in search of sunshine and we are continuing to see Brits prioritise holidays and across our travel agent partners with bookings up 15%.

“Top destinations are Canaries, mainland Spain, Turkey, Portugal and Greece, proving that people are looking for sunshine and warmth which isn’t surprising given the UK’s current wet weather.

“The most popular long-haul destinations are the USA, driven by trips to New York; the Caribbean, and in particular Jamaica; Mexico, Thailand and Dubai.”
