Ontario launches campaign to encourage post-pandemic travel

Destination Ontario has launched a consumer marketing campaign to encourage holidaymakers to visit Ontario following the reopening of Canada’s borders.

The ‘Discover Together’ campaign went live this week and runs until mid-December, targeting the visiting friends and relatives (VFR) market.

It highlights expats living in Ontario as spokespeople for the destination, showcasing their excitement about being able to reconnect with loved ones they have been separated from as a result of the pandemic and being able to show them Ontario.

The campaign strives to tug at the heartstrings and inspire would-be travellers to dream about a trip to Ontario.

The campaign has been rolled out on digital and social media platforms.

It aims to showcase expats’ excitement about being able to reconnect with loved ones they have been separated from as a result of the pandemic and being able to show them Ontario, imagining moments together.

Debra Mansillo, vice president of industry relations and international marketing at Destination Ontario, said: “We are so excited to share our message that Ontario is welcoming visitors and encouraging people to come together to rediscover our province once again.

“Capitalising on the pent-up demand for travel, we hope this campaign will increase awareness of the province and in turn lead to bookings for our trade partners, who have stood by the destination during this tough time for the industry.”

Consumers will be directed by the campaign online to market-specific landing page destinationontario.com/uk which gives reasons to visit, things to do, places to visit and road trip itineraries.

It also features bookable tour operator packages while images focus on activities available and position Ontario as a safe destination post-pandemic.
