Princess Cruises extends use of MedallionPay to shoreside purchases

Princess Cruises is making its contactless MedallionPay technology available for making purchases ashore.

Payment via the wearable device is available in St Thomas, Cabo San Lucas, Cozumel and Puerto Vallarta, with more destinations and merchants being added in the near future, including ports in Alaska.

Passengers can pay for shopping and dining at selected outlets displaying the MedallionPay logo and receive 7% back on shoreside purchases as onboard credit when they associate a credit card with a MedallionPay account.

More than 65 retailers from restaurants, bars, souvenir stores and jewellers to museums and excursion operators have signed up to accept the payments in addition to Diamonds International and sustainable brand Cariloha.

MedallionPay is available to all retailers with no setup or monthly fees, no required long-term contracts and the software is free to use. Merchants pay a transaction fee that includes all credit card processing fees.

Princess Cruises president John Padgett said: “MedallionPay offers the ultimate in payment convenience and security for guests both on board and now in ports we visit, seamlessly blending the onboard and destination experience.

“What makes MedallionPay extra special is the instant onboard value it delivers to guests in addition to base benefits with their associated credit card.”

Meanwhile, the line has cut fares and introduced a low deposit of £50 per person on its 2022 fly-Mediterranean cruises in an offer that runs until February 14.

More than 30 Regal Princess cruises, ranging from seven to 21-nights, are included in the sale, departing between March and June 2022.

Cruise-only rates start at £349pp for seven-nights or from £559pp for an all-inclusive Princess Plus fare.
