Riviera Travel unveils new city extension programme

Riviera Travel has added 10 three-day European city-break extensions across six countries to its 2023 river cruise programme and unveiled a new 10-night sailing in France.

Each extension features a three-night stay in a centrally-located hotel which allows passengers to see the city at “their own pace”.

Breakfast, a selection of meals and return flights to several UK regional airports are included.

The city extensions are in Amsterdam, Basel, Cologne, Frankfurt, Lyon, Marseille, Munich, Paris, Porto and Vienna.

The line said the new programme was created after a “number of guests” requested to stay on independently after their river cruise.

Riviera offers European river cruises on the Danube, Douro, Rhine, Rhône, Moselle and Seine.

Prices for the new 10-night Lyon, Provençal Rhône & the Camargue itinerary, which has been added by Riviera to its 2023 itinerary programme, lead in from £2,249. Departures on the Lord Byron ship are available from April to October.

The cruise features 14 tours and visits, including guided tours of Cluny Abbey, Lyon; wine tastings in Mâcon and Chateauneuf-du-Pape; and guided excursions to the Ornithological Park of Pont de Gau.

Prices includes flights, transfers, onboard meals, welcome cocktails, tea and coffee.

The city stay extension in Lyon is available to passengers who book the cruise. Passengers will save £150 when they book a 2023 city stay or tour extension by July 31, 2022.

Katja Hildebrandt, head of product river and ocean cruise at Riviera Travel, said: “It’s clear that an increasing number of our guests are looking to enjoy their river cruise and then spend additional time away.

“By offering city stay extensions, guests have the option to visit these destinations, and explore the local landmarks and attractions at their own pace.

She added: “For those guests who would prefer to continue their holiday with a programme escorted by an expert tour manager, we will continue to offer that choice across both this year and 2023.”
