Sunvil has added the ‘untouched’ Greek island of Skyros to its portfolio for this year.
The Greek specialist operator is promoting the northern Sporades’ largest island as an authentic destination for couples and families which is largely untouched by developers and has 30 ‘unspoilt’ and ‘sparsely populated’ beaches.
It includes historic sites, including the Neolithic site of Palamari, dating back to 2500 BC, and is the resting place of English poet Rupert Brooke, who wrote the sonnet The Soldier.
The island offers hiking trails in forests in the north while the south is home to an endangered species of miniature wild horses and its highest peak Kochilia, a protected environment due to its biodiversity.
The capital Skyros, also known as Chora, is home to a Byzantine monastery, archaeological and folklore museums and a Venetian castle.
The island, which is also known for its locally produced herbs, cheese, thyme honey and lobster, is reached via short connecting flights from Athens.
Trips offered by Sunvil include seven nights self-catering at Yiasemi Studios from £973 based on two sharing, including flights and transfers out of Gatwick, in May, and seven nights bed and breakfast at the 17-room Antigoni Hotel from £1,079, based on two sharing an apartment, including flights and transfers.
