Travel Weekly is to host its first People Summit this autumn as the industry continues to confront significant challenges around recruitment, retention and the perception of the sector as a career choice.
The full-day event will feature a series of discussions, debates and presentations on the issues facing the industry, and will take place at the offices of Grant Thornton in London on November 14 with the support of Abta and the Future You Foundation.
It will also feature the launch of the latest edition of Travel Weekly’s prospectus-style publication and website Take Off in Travel, which will make its return after the pandemic in association with Abta and headline partner Hays Travel and will once again showcase the array of careers in the travel industry to the next generation of talent.
Key subjects covered at the summit will include recruitment; training and development; the perception of the industry; the future of the workplace and working culture; the role of technology; and the importance of developing a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly Group, said: “As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic it is clear that businesses across the industry are facing significant resourcing challenges and this is putting extreme pressure on their ability to trade their way to recovery and build for the future.
“We hope the first Travel Weekly People Summit will be an opportunity for a range of experts and stakeholders to discuss these challenges and how they can be overcome, while also addressing the wider perception of travel and tourism as a career choice.”
She added: “I am delighted we will be bringing back Take Off in Travel as we look to showcase the industry to young people and am grateful to Abta, Hays Travel, Grant Thornton and the Future You Foundation for their support.”
