Tui claims post-election rush to search and book sun holidays

Tui UK has claimed a last minute surge in summer package holiday searches of almost 20% and a rise of more than 10% in bookings on Sunday following the general election.

Searches for winter sun holidays rose by almost 30%, according to the operator.

Greece was the most searched destination, with Turkey, Cyprus and the Canary Islands all seeing an increase in web searches of more than 20% week-on-week.

Bookings from the Midlands were reported to be up 19%, with the north and Scotland also seeing rises.

Tui UK & Ireland managing director Andrew Flintham said: “After a season of debate and decision-making, we’re seeing a significant number of people wanting to recharge and reconnect with the world beyond the ballot box.

“The uptick in search for holidays to the sun shows a clear desire for a break after the election.”
