Viking adds second European winter river cruise

Viking is adding a second winter itinerary to its European river cruise itineraries.

The 10-day River Danube sailing will operate between Budapest and Passau from December 2024 until early March 2025.

This follows 10-day Rhine cruises between Amsterdam and Basel introduced last December.

The line said: “An ideal time to visit, winter offers guests smaller crowds, easier access to landmarks and opportunities to savour local traditions.”

Details of the new winter voyage came as the company started its main river sailing season in Europe with itineraries between March and December on the Rhine, Main, Danube, Seine, Rhône, Douro, Moselle and Elbe rivers.

Viking chairman Torstein Hagen said: “With its rich history, culture and scenic regions that are best explored by river, Europe remains our most popular destination.

“As more curious travellers become familiar with river voyages as a seamless method for exploring, we are pleased to begin a new season on Europe’s iconic waterways.”
