An independent agency in Haxby, York, has been celebrating a move to larger premises with a two-day opening event for clients.
Conexo Travel first started trading in 2005 and opened in Haxby in 2008, but had to retrench during the pandemic.
Founder and owner David Carruthers (pictured left in main photograph) worked alone during the Covid crisis but kept the agency’s profile high locally by talking regularly to BBC Radio York to share travel tips with listeners.
Conexo Travel now has a team of six and, in July, it moved to larger premises at 45 The Village in Haxby, just 50 yards from the previous shop.
The new shop features a travel inspiration zone, to talk to clients about holiday plans.
Next year, the agency will host Meet The Expert events, featuring suppliers such as Silversea Cruises, Ambassador Cruise Line, Scenic and Emerald.
The two-day opening celebration offered the chance to meet regular clients on Friday (November 25), and local shoppers passing by on Saturday.
“It is a good time to generate interest,” he said.
“It’s been great seeing old and new faces – we have picked up new customers who heard me on the radio, so there were even opportunities coming out of a bad situation.”
The agency is a member of Hays Independence Group, and representatives from the consortium – Harriet Thompson, Emma Ray and Lois Chapman – joined the celebrations on Friday.
