Former travel exec David Robinson to join Reuben’s Retreat

Former senior travel industry executive and children’s hospice boss David Robinson is to join Reuben’s Retreat.

The charity, which helps families of bereaved children or those whose children are living with medical complexities, turns 11 today, August 23, 2023.

It was created two days after the death of Reuben Graham on August 21, 2012.

Reuben’s mum Nicola Graham, who was working in the travel industry when her son passed away, said she wanted to use the 11th anniversary week to share some positive news.

Robinson joins Reuben’s Retreat initially as a paid consultant and will work with the charity on its future vision, strategic aims and governance.

Until 2012 Robinson worked as product and aviation director for scheduled business at Thomas Cook, and prior to that was product and commercial director at Gold Medal.

Before retiring in December last year, Robinson was chief executive of Derian House Children’s Hospice, which receives less than 30% of its £6 million running costs from government.

Robinson will work on Reuben Retreat’s future strategic aims project as it enters a new phase of fundraising to create self-catering accommodation for families in need.

Graham said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have David’s love and support. He has been incredibly complimentary of our work and achievements. He has an empathetic and considered approach to our vision

“He holds a great deal of knowledge, has a proven track record in his valuable time at Derian House and is a fellow of our beloved travel industry too.

“We talk similar language and have many mutual past colleagues and friends. I feel very fortunate to have his gift of time and talent.”

Robinson said it would be “an honour” to work with the charity on its latest plans.

“I have known about the amazing work of Reuben’s Retreat during my tenure at Derian House and am excited to support Nicola and the team to deliver their ambitious plans for the charity. The passion they have to support the families who need their service is overwhelming,” he said.
