Reynolds fears school holiday changes could spell disaster

ABTA chief executive Ian Reynolds has predicted higher package prices and greater absenteeism if school holidays are condensed into a four-week period.

Attending the Alpha Forum, ABTA chief executive Ian Reynolds said Local Government Association plans for a fixed four-week summer holiday period would be disastrous.

“A number of proposals being considered,” said Reynolds.

“If everyone had their summer holiday in the same four weeks, there would be enormous demand for peak-season holidays and consequently prices would rise. Those who couldn’t afford to go would simply take their children out of school during term time,” he added.

Any holiday changes are not expected until later in the year.
