Sims and Bowden-Doyle set to join dot-com revolution

TWO high-profile tour operators – Ed Sims from Airtours and Richard Bowden-Doyle from Thomson – are set to join Internet companies.

Sims, who has been sales, marketing and development director of Airtours Holidays for the past 18 months, is joining virgin.com/travel as deputy managing director, reporting to MDIan Brooks. After working his notice, Sims is expected to join the London-based company in September.

Virgin.com/travel is due to go live in autumn and Sims said:”This is a chance to do something with a blank sheet of paper. Virgin is such a powerful brand.”

Brooks and Sims worked together 10 years ago for ILG, before it collapsed in 1991.

Former Thomson Holidays MDRichard Bowden-Doyle is expected to join trainline.com as chief operating officer. Industry sources said Bowden-Doyle had been offered the position and was likely to accept. Trainline.com declined to comment and Bowden-Doyle was unavailable.
