Commission loss
£80 an hour fee levied
London-based agency Cyprus Travel claims it has succeeded in charging clients up to £80 an hour for its services, following British Airways’ decision to axe commissions.Managing director Michael Malakouna, whose company sells worldwide travel, believes his aggressive stance has proved agents can successfully make the transition from earning commission to charging service fees.
Malakouna has posted a note on his door explaining to customers that BA has cut commissions and he will now charge £80 an hour, with a minimum fee of £20.
Malakouna’s note adds:”Depending on the commission we earn, part or all of the fee will be credited to your account.”
