Convention aims to draw greater agent attendance
ABTA is hoping to attract around 800 agents out of a targeted 2,400 delegates to the Kos convention.Last year, attendance figures in Cairns were just over 1,600, with 501 travel agents, 217 tour operators and 885 industry partners and other suppliers.
Various operators have shown interest in sponsoring some agents to attend but no one has yet confirmed. ABTA said it would offer special rates.
Registration is expected to open in the second week of July.
Lisbon is confirmed as the venue for next year’s ABTA convention running from November 2-5. Eilat, Israel, Havana, Cuba, Cairo, Egypt and Budapest, Hungary are all in the running for the 2002 convention, while Palma is tipped as favourite for 2003.
Meanwhile, just less than half the bookings are expected to come on-line according to convention organisers.
Around 12% registered through the Internet last year but predictions show this could rise to nearer 40% for this year’s conference.
