Ryanair joins Go in protest over Lufthansa
RYANAIR has joined rival low-cost carrier Go in making a complaint against Lufthansa to the European Commission. Both airlines accuse the German carrier of anti-competitive behaviour on Stansted routes to Germany.
The Irish airline’s chief executive Michael O’Leary said: “Lufthansa is engaged in a policy of below cost pricing on those routes where it faces competition from Ryanair and other low-cost airlines.”
Ryanair has pinpointed routes to Frankfurt and Hamburg where it says Lufthansa is lowering prices to drive the no-frills airline out of the market.
Go launched its action in March after claiming it had to drop flights to Munich after Lufthansa dumped capacity on the route and lowered prices.
Lufthansa said it would vigorously defend its market to Germany. It has rejected Ryanair and Go’s allegations.
n Ryanair has signed a deal with Hotel Systems International to sell city-break packages in Europe. From June 28, passengers logging on to ryanair.com will be directed to hotelsystemsworldwide.com to book accommodation along with flights.
