Local agents encouraged
REGIONAL travel agencies can beat the multiples by concentrating on their local markets and reacting to regional market trends.Travel House managing director Martin Morgan said the major chains are simply too big to make quick decisions and judgements.
Morgan offered encouragement to smaller players and likened the multiples to Eddie Stobart lorries – too cumbersome and unable to move quickly.
“We cannot compete nationally but in our local towns we will win every time,” he told delegates. “We can react to local quirks, can tailor our business to customers and recognise regional trends.”
He urged would-be retail entrepreneurs not to be discouraged from setting up in business.
