Geldof berates industry prices as deckchair.com is upgraded
DECKCHAIR.com chairman Sir Bob Geldof criticised the prices charged by the travel industry as “a rip off” as he unveiled an upgrade to his own site.“If you think your travel agent at Lunn Poly is ripping you off, go and look at this site,” he said.
Sir Bob added that he did not find the experience of going into a travel agent a convivial one. And he reiterated previous criticisms of rival travel sites, which he claims are too slow and complicated.
Deckchair.com has just completed an upgrade to its site following a tie-up with IBM.
Co-owner James Page admitted the site had experienced technical problems in the past, but said these had been ironed out.
He claimed the difficulties had been caused by demand from deckchair.com users overwhelming Worldspan’s mainframe in Atlanta.
“A travel agent sends a request for information once every 10mins but consumers send a lot more,” he said.
