No-frills carriers are not the only option
I was surprised to see that Bromley Travel (Travel Weekly June 26) suggested a no-frills carrier as a price comparison to a charter flight from London to Malaga. The no-frills carriers, as many people are now discovering, very often do not represent the best deal for travellers.
Monarch Crown Service operates eight scheduled flights a week to Malaga – we also operate regular services to Alicante, Gibraltar, Minorca and Tenerife – and specialise in short and long durations, as our published fares have no minimum or maximum stay restrictions. I checked availability for the dates the agent was interested in and found our seats from Luton were £218 plus tax.
While this fare is comparable to the charter flight, when travelling Monarch Crown Service all passengers receive a superior in-flight service, four-course meal with wine, complementary drinks from the bar, newspapers, hot towels, in-flight audio/video entertainment and the chance to pre-book seats at no extra charge.
I am sure you would not get all these frills with the charter flight and wouldn’t with a low-cost carrier.
Agents shouldn’t assume that no-frills carriers will always offer the best price alternative to charter.
Other scheduled carriers can often provide a comparable fare with a far superior quality of service.
Not only that, we throw the full 9% agents’ commission into the bargain.
