Hughes takes on new global position at P&O
P&O CRUISESmanaging director Gwyn Hughes has been promoted to a new global role in the company’s cruise division.Hughes is to become executive vice-president corporate development on a newly created executive committee that will oversee UK-based P&O Cruises, US cruiseline Princess Cruises and German operator Aida Cruises.
The move is in preparation for the P&O group’s demerger of its cruising operations from its port, freight and ferry business this October.
Hughes will be replaced as P&O Cruises managing director by commercial and corporate director David Dingle.
The P&O group is forging ahead with its de-merger plans despite the collapse of its $400m acquisition of Festival Cruises last week.
The company blamed the recent dramatic slump in its share price for its decision to call off the takeover. It planned to pay for Festival with a mixture of cash and shares but the shares are now worth a lot less.
