ABTA advises agents to hide service fees in initial quotes
ABTAhas told agents to hide any service fees from customers when they present them with their first quote to avoid losing business.
The policy is contrary to the advice given by some service fee experts, who are telling agents to be upfront about charges.
According to ABTA’s MORIpoll taken in 1998, more than 60% of holidaymakers said they would stop using a travel agent if they were to introduce a fee.
ABTAchief executive Ian Reynolds admits that as long as agents stay within the law, not mentioning the service fee until customers have agreed a price could clinch the deal.
