Jordan receives £42.6m bank loan to boost visitor numbers

Jordan is to receive a loan from the newly formed Japan Bank for International Co-operation to improve its tourist infrastructure.

JBIC is providing the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with a non-Official Development Assistance loan of £42.6m for a Tourism Sector Development Project. It will fund improvements to the Amman Downtown Tourist Zone, the Dead Sea Parkway, Dead Sea Panoramic Complex, Karak Tourism Development and Historic Old Salt Development.

The bank said the project will help improve Jordan’s tourism infrastructure, making cultural and natural sites more tourist friendly, and generate more revenue from the tourist industry. Visitor numbers are increasing following improvement in relations in the region.
