Monika Hoesle, product development manager, Amadeus

Education and training: attended school in Germany between September 1980 and May 1989. Obtained Abitur (A’ levels) in English, Maths, German and Religion. Job training at Lufthansa and Amadeus plus some self-taught experience.

First travel job: started travel career as a reservation agent at Lufthansa in 1990.

Career path: Monika was promoted to the role of senior reservation agent at Lufthansa after starting as a reservation agent. Joined Amadeus in February 1993 as a help-desk executive, supporting the UK customer base and assisting with both functional and technical queries on computer systems. Promoted to help-desk team leader in July 1995, then to customer service manager in August 1997. Monika moved to post of product development manager in December 1998. This involves being responsible for the entire Amadeus UK product range, including product availability and evaluation of the UK’s product requirements.

Advice for people wishing to develop a career in travel: “Always take opportunities as they arise, be flexible and be forward-looking in your approach.”
