Company to offer agent policy training

AGENTS could benefit over on-line travel insurance providers by explaining the small print of the policies on sale to customers.

According to Primary Insurance, 7% of travellers booking their holiday didn’t see the need for taking out insurance in the first place, while 39% didn’t know whether their home insurance covered baggage loss and 33% didn’t know what cancellation cover they got from their credit card.

To overcome this, Primary is offering training programmes to help agents focus on common areas of concern and assist them at the point of sale.

This comes at the same time that on-line broker 1st Quote said holidaymakers are deserting traditional agents in favour of on-line travel insurance.

The site claims it has seen a 30% increase in bookings compared to last year and argues that its prices can be up to six times cheaper than through a traditional agent.

Chief executive Ian Meyer said: “Consumers are realising they don’t have to book insurance through the travel agent and can in fact find much better value deals on-line. We cover insurance services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
